Shall I compare thee to a hairy ape?
Thou art too noisy – words like rough boulders fall
From out your mouth which should be sealed with tape
Cross-wise and twofold, bringing peace to all.
Some signs of cleverness the ape doth show
But no such signs do I find in your speech
Apes do have alpha males yet well I know,
They have respect for things out of their reach.
An ape possesses instincts sharp and strong
Which keep his boastful self balanc’d and checked
Thou ow’st no moderation, and ere long
Thy country’s body politic will be wrecked
And yet – incompetent and not much hair
Thou shouldst be happy with that mild compare!
